Pisces in tattooing: what each symbol means

The classic motif is two fish swimming against each other, joined by a band – an image of two opposing pulls in one person. It works beautifully in a circular composition and is one of the most rewarding motifs in the zodiac.

The glyph is two arcs joined by a horizontal line, the same two fish reduced to a minimum. Water is often added – a wave, a surface, bubbles – or the Japanese koi, which carries its own symbolism of perseverance and can hold a whole piece on its own.
